QUADRILATERAL CITY PROJECT 5/7/18 We are in need items for students to construct our quadrilateral city. Plastic bottles, boxes, cardboard, scrap booking paper, felt, or any other craft supply donations would be helpful. Students will use these materials and turn them in to buildings for the town. This is our end of the year project which incorporates math, science, social studies, reading and writing standards.
STATE ASSESSMENTS 4/3/18 Students will begin state assessments tomorrow April 4, 2018. The first test is Language Arts and will be taken in two sections over 2 days. I have been encouraging the kids to get a good nights rest and a healthy breakfast to be prepared for the test. We have been encouraging them to take their time and try their best to show how much they have learned this year. Thank you for supporting them along the way.
ANNOUNCEMENTS 3/26/18 Snacks-Our class is in need of snacks and paper towels/napkins for the classroom. Any donations would be greatly accepted. Please make sure they are nut free since we have students that are allergic.
State Assessments-This is the first year your child will be taking State Assessments in both English Language Arts and Math. Our first round of tests will be on April 4-5, 2018. It is very important that your child is here on these days. We have a limited number of days to get these tests done. Also if you could please make sure that your child gets a good night sleep and a good healthy breakfast on these day it would be helpful since we test first thing in the morning. Testing dates for math will take place on April 16-17, 2018.
Music Program: Notes went home today about the upcoming Spring Music program. Students will need to arrive at Circle Middle School on April 10, 2018 at 6:40 pm. The program begins at 7:00 pm.
2/26/18 STEM ACTIVITIES Students enjoyed using engineering skills and problem solving today during STEM. They were given the task of trying to get all of the items to the other side using only the string. They could not use their hands to push or pull the objects. Students had a great time working with others to figure this out.
1/23/18 CLASSROOM SNACKS NEEDED We are in need of classroom snacks. Any nut free donations would be greatly appreciated. Healthy options such as fruit, yogurt, and vegetables are always welcome. We do have a place to store them and keep them cold. If you have extra napkins or paper towels we are in need of those as well when passing out snacks. Thank you!
1/16/18 School will be in session on Wednesday January 17, 2018. It will be cold so please make sure students come with coats, hats, and gloves.

10/23/17 Parent Teacher Conferences Just a reminder that Parent Teacher Conferences will be on Tuesday October 24, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm and on Thursday October 26, 2017 from 8:00-4:00 pm. Students will be out of school on Thursday October 26, 2017 and Friday October 27, 2017. I look forward to meeting with all of you this week.
10/2/17 Character Pumpkins Information went home today about character pumpkins. This is an optional at home project that students can complete. They are to choose a character from a book and decorate a pumpkin to represent the character. No carved pumpkins are allowed. Students can paint, glue, etc. to decorate their pumpkins. Pumpkins are due October 16, 2017 and will be on display until Halloween.
9/23/17 No School on Monday. Newsletters will be going home on Tuesday along with the Spelling List. I will be sending information home about SeeSaw. This is an app students will be using on the ipads to keep artifacts of their work. The cool thing is you can see what they have uploaded. Please let me know if you have any questions. Old Cowtown Field Trip 4/27/17 Students had a great time exploring Old Cowtown Museum. They learned about goods and services, how town/cities are established, and farm life in the 1800's. A big thank you to all the parents that volunteered to help.
Benton Backyard 4/11/17 Students have been enjoying the beautiful weather. We have been using the Benton Backyard as our classroom for writing time in the afternoon.
Exploring Liquid Volume 4/3/17
Students have been learning about liquid volume in math. They got to explore milliliters and liter using beakers and droppers.
Valentine's Day Party 2/20/17
Students enjoyed their Valentine's Day party. They played some great games that even incorporated some Science and Math. Thank you to all the parents that sent items, planned the party, and helped that day.
100th Day of School 1/31/17
Today we did some fun activities that involved science, engineering, and math. Students had a great time working with other students and sharing ideas.
Science-Invisible Forces 1/16/17 Students learned about forces and the push and pulls that happen around us. Students then created hopper poppers and experimented to see how high they could make them hop. Students recorded data and experimented with different ideas to see how they make it jump higher.
ART Students have really enjoyed making art with different materials. This week we used Q-tips to create snowflakes. They also wrote a poem about snowflakes. The students then incorporated technology and keyboarding skills to publish their poems.
The fall party went very well. The students really enjoyed the Bug Lady. Students got to touch and feel bugs and animals. They even made me get in on the action. Here are some moments that were captured.
Fall Party Info
Our Fall Party will be held October 31st 2016 at 2:20PM-3:15PM. There is no need to send any type of snack or treat. We are going to do something a little different this year. Both 3rd grade classes are going to get together. The BUG LADY is going to come to our class room and show us some fun Creepy Crawly Bugs and Animals.
Please send $3.50 with your student in an envelope and there name on it. This will pay for the Bug lady to come to our school and do this Program. It would be best if you can send this by October 26th 2016. Thursday and Friday there is no school. ~ The 3rd Grade Room Moms
Literacy Character Pumpkin Project: Students are not required to complete this project. If students do choose to do the project then it will need to be completed at home. All pumpkins will be displayed at school.
Assignment: Design a pumpkin with the image of your favorite book character. Due Date: Monday October 17th
Each student must select a book with a strong lead character. This can be a picture book or chapter book. It does not need to be a book about Halloween. Nonfiction books are not allowed for this assignment.
1. Identify the main character of the book. 2. Decorate a pumpkin with the image of that character (at home) 3. Write a report at school (at school)

Brain Breaks Students are really enjoying our morning brain breaks. It gives them a chance to get their wiggles out and let their brain relax.
Students are in need of an extra spiral notebook for P.E. If you could please send one with your child it would be much appreciated. I know that lots of stores are marking down school supplies so you should be able to get them at a good price.
I am excited for the start of a new school year. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I enjoyed spending time with my family and relaxing. I am attaching the school supply list for easy reference should you need it.
The first of day of school is Wednesday August 17, 2016. School will dismiss early at 1:00 pm on that day. I look forward to seeing you and your child.
